equanimity

word

Equanimous \E*quan"i*mous\, a.
[L. aequanimus, fr. aequus equal + animus mind.]

Of an even, composed frame of mind; of a steady temper; not easily elated or depressed.
[1913 Webster]

Delightful. Makes me think of Medialens folk.

words

I have a new favorite orator: Michael Parenti.

A brief search on the interwebs will only find you his web site, which is a bit off-putting, and doesn't really show to his strengths. But take a listen to Land of Idols (40 minutes), then check out the other talks in that same directory (search for "parenti").

wheels

Set off on what must have been a 100 km loop last Sunday on the bike, after coming back from GUADEC; Google thinks the distance was significantly less. Perhaps I should report a bug?

Meanwhile at home, yet another broken spoke.

sense

It was so quiet walking home this evening that even smelling the street odors made me feel like I was eavesdropping.

Is this all the same wheel? If so, when the other spokes break, it likely creates more stress on the other spokes. If the wheel isn't perfectly true as well, it probably causes all the other spokes to weaken at a faster pace.

I have trouble with spoke breakage all the time, but it's due to my sheer weight. It is almost always the back wheel that goes. I've had to buy a new wheel the last two years.. so far, I've gotten by with repairing my old wheels, but I'm braced for a new one if it gets too flakey.

I had the same problem lately. Google maps would always predict like 10km less compared to the cycling computer. This was on trips of around 180km.

Parenti, the leading marxist apologist for Chinese and Russian "communist" imperialism, is your favourite orator?

He truly has the balls of a comedian to mock "those who make things easy for the hitlers" while being himself totally devoted to identical behaviour in the service of Soviet and Chinese dictatorships because their military expansionism was supposedly needed to advance global communism.

Although those main communist dictatorships have now seamlessly shifted from communism to nationalism and fascism, Parenti is still steadfastedly making a living making excuses for their past and in China's case continuing genocidal policies which he dismisses as "necessary phases" and mere "class struggle" in human kind's inevitable march towards global marxism.

It may be impossible to find anyone as blind to the crimes committed in the name of communism.

And you are really into this great orator?

Chris: It's mostly on the back wheel, although I have broken ones on the front wheel. At some point I decided that it must be the wheel and so replaced it, but they still break. My current best bet is that it's because I leave it outside, and with the pollution and rain, the steel corrodes at the joint with the hub.
